Local news media JoongAng Daily has reported that the Kimberly-Clark Corporation, the creators of Kleenex and Huggies, announced on July 13 that it plans to establish its first overseas product development center, to be named the Global Innovation Center, in South Korea.
Cindy Panning, Kimberly-Clark’s vice president of product development, said that the company chose Korea because “all of Kimberly-Clark’s major platforms are produced and sold in Korea.” Also, close ties with local affiliate Yuhan Kimberly undoubtedly contributed to their motivations.
As mentioned previously, South Koreans are notorious for being highly selective and discerning consumers, thus making the nation an ideal location to develop products, services, and marketing strategies. Kimberly-Clark has seen this potential, acknowledging that Koreans are demanding and adopt products quickly.
“They’re very willing to try new ideas, products and technologies,” said Panning. “They’re also very good at telling us how the products are working and how they’re meeting their expectations.”
